Originally from Carlisle, A.J began playing guitar at age 12. While interested in all styles of music it was in classical guitar that A.J gained his BPA (hons) from Leeds College of Music. In 2006 he moved to London and has since performed regularly in some of the worlds most famous venues from The Royal Albert Hall, The Sporting Club in Monte Carlo to the People’s Theatre in Shanghai.
He has been guitarist for number 1 selling artists
including Hayley Westenra, Laura Wright, Nell Bryden, Jonathan Ansell, G4, Charlotte Jaconeli, Lucy Kay, Noah Stewart, Lee Mead, Rhydian, Faryl Smith and Dame Evelyn Glennie. He’s also toured alongside artists like Jools Holland, The Gypsy Kings and Gary Barlow.
He has had the privilege of playing on BBC Radio 1, 2, 6 and BBC London as well as shows including BBC 1 breakfast news, Alan Titchmarch, Loose Women, and Made In Chelsea. A.J was also arranger and guitarist for the new Queen Musical ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and played guitar on the critically acclaimed musical ‘The Colour Purple’. His classical background has seen him work with orchestras including Opera North, British Sinfonia, Welsh National and the National Orchestra of Taiwan.
As a solo artist A.J released his debut album ‘Harmonics’ in 2012. The album
received positive reviews and airplay across the BBC and Europe. Alongside his
songwriting A.J has been involved in dance music collaborations, composing music for
adverts, corporate marketing, teaching publications and theatre productions. He has also written for other artists and continues to grow in demand.
Outside of performing A.J is a highly demanded tutor providing master classes in
performance, songwriting and band workshops at venues including The Sage Gateshead, The International Guitar Festival, The Guildhall and The Apple Store Oxford Street. He has written tuition articles for Acoustic Guitar, Total Guitar and Guitar
Techniques and is currently tutoring around London.
A.J has been performing in hospitals since he was 15 and continues to do so for charity ‘Music In Hospitals’.
